DPN 1988 -Documentary interview
with Jerry Covell 1 of 2
Jerry Covell explains about the petition that people had on campus of Gallaudet University which consisted of 850 signatures, the camp out at the front gates, and a vigil. When the board of trustees announced that they chose a hearing president instead of a deaf president, everyone became upset and enraged. They all marched to the Mayflower hotel, where the board of trustees were. Jerry shared about what happened during the DPN march to the Capitol Hill, just when the board of the trustees refused the protestorsí four demands. Jerry gave an insider view of private meetings with the four leaders, Dr. I. King Jordan, and Elisabeth Zinser.
